Boy Scout Completes All 138 Merit Badges
July 26, 2018 (Wayne, PA) – With over 230 camping days, 260 hiking miles, and 300 hours on water, 16-year-old Eagle Scout David Certo of Boy Scout Troop 117 in Plymouth Meeting recently completed the requirements for all 138 merit badges available within the Boy Scouts of America! David’s quest, a feat that has only been achieved by 380 Scouts since the organization was founded in 1910, took him to nearly 10 states and took 5 years.

Boy Scouts Bring Corporate Campfire to Center City
8th Annual Corporate Campfire Gala Honors Industry and Community Leaders
June 8, 2018 (Wayne, PA) – The Cradle of Liberty Council, Boy Scouts of America hosted its 8th Annual Corporate Campfire Gala at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown on Monday, June 4 to benefit underserved youth and honor distinguished business leaders who represent the values of Scouting. NBC10’s Erin Coleman and Telemundo62’s Iris Delgado served as the emcees for this night of inspiration, which also included campfire songs and skits by local Scouts from Philadelphia. More than $600,000 was raised to make Scouting programs and summer camp opportunities accessible for all youth, regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds.

Pennsylvania Scouts Present Report on Scouting to Congress
100 Local Scouts Spend the Day at the State Capitol
May 8, 2018 (Wayne, PA) – Senator John Gordner and PA State Rep. Lynda Culver hosted a delegation of approximately 100 Pennsylvania-based staff, volunteers and Scouts from the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) for the first ever “Report to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania” in Harrisburg last Tuesday, May 1. The Scouts gathered on the steps of the Rotunda to present the colors and share the report with members of Congress. The impressive report included key Scouting highlights like the more than 1,035,489 community service hours that Scouts in PA contributed in 2017, and the nearly 2,500 local Scouts who earned the Eagle Scout rank – including 328 from Philadelphia, Montgomery and Delaware counties.

Venturer Avery Sytsma Awarded the Summit Award
Venturer Avery Sytsma Awarded the First Summit Award in the History of the Cradle of Liberty Council, Boy Scouts of America
May 29, 2018 (Wayne, PA) – Avery Sytsma of Northeast Philadelphia’s Venturing Crew 1776 received Venturing’s highest honor, the Summit Award, at her Court of Honor on Saturday, May 5 at the Saints United Lutheran Church. During the ceremony, which was attended by a host of family and friends, Constituent Service Representative Gary Grisafi presented Avery with a citation from Philadelphia City Councilman-At-Large Al Taubenberger’s office in honor of her accomplishment. The founding president of her crew, Avery is the first person to receive the Summit Award in the Cradle of Liberty Council, Boy Scouts of America (COLBSA).

Focused on Increasing Youth Success, Cradle of Liberty Council, Boy Scouts of America
to Expand Local Afterschool Programs
May 29, 2018 (Wayne, PA) – United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey recently announced that it would award the Cradle of Liberty Council, Boy Scouts of America a 3-year grant in the amount of $20,000 per year in support of increasing opportunities for successful youth through the COLBSAs afterschool Scouting programs. The programs, which currently operate in nearly 50 schools in some of Philadelphia’s most underserved neighborhoods, makes Scouting available for the region’s most vulnerable young people.

The Cradle of Liberty Council, Boy Scouts of America Welcomes Girls to Cub Scouting
February 2, 2018 (Wayne) – The Cradle of Liberty Council, Boy Scouts of America (COLBSA) is pleased to announce its participation in the Family Scouting Early Adopter program, allowing eligible Cub Scout packs to begin enrolling girls (K-4) as of January 15. The Early Adopter program comes on the heels of the Boy Scouts of America’s (BSA) historic decision last October to begin allowing girls to join Cub Scouting in the fall of 2018. Many councils across the country have already been serving female siblings at Cub Scout meetings for years and are now officially enrolling girls through the Early Adopter program.
